New LeRoy/JayRay Billboards Crossing the Line

VIEWPOINT: Collation of Urban Decentcy

Yesterday at my church group anger management prayer meeting, an architect friend of mine made a comment about the billboards in Tacoma. "what does it say about Tacoma that it has a freestanding billboard on Pacific Avenue and 10th Street?" he said. My architect friend was upset about the bligt that billboards supposedly represent in his liberal ideology. Being more conservative in my own views of urban planning, I am not so much upset about the jobs and revenue generated by the billboards but more about the moral content being presented in those billboards.

Last year I was disgusted by the flagrant refference to the female breast in the Leroy billboard (I wont repeat the slogan here but you can CLICK HERE TO VIEW).

Today I read in the news tribune about the Russel billboard. OK you're thinking not big deal right?

I don't know what kind of favors vopel has gotten from the marketing team over at Jay Ray but his article fails to mention THESE DISGUSTING NEW BILLBOARDS:

Imagine my outrage when I dove past these new LeRoy billboards!

Please join me in a letter writing campaign to the Tacoma City Council. Make sure you use the subject line: MAKE TACOMA SAFE AND CLEAN. TAKE DOWN OFFENSIVE BILLBOARDS IMMEDIATELY.

thank you. God Bless

I hate those suggestive billboards. This one was over the top: "If he gives you a pearl necklace he cares."

Those billboards give a new meaning to the earlier billboards around Tacoma:

I understand the need to "go local" be edgy, but perhaps this billboard campaign has gone over the line.

The sooner Tacoma prevails against Clear Channel in the current pending federal litigation, the better.

Hmm. I think you should learn to spell before you go around criticizing an attempt at holiday humor. "Bligt?" "Decentcy?" "Refference?" Seriously, you'll get a lot more attention from city hall if your letter doesn't look like it was written by a fifth-grader. These billboards are excellent examples of the creativity this city needs if it is ever going to be successful. I'm a hundred times more likely to shop at LeRoy now that they've put up these billboards. However, I agree that billboards do cause blight.

Hey, I thought the time limit on billboards was up, and there was a chance that Tacoma would have to remove all billboards!
I'm offended by many billboards that I see, including a prolife billboard near Center Street. Sensory regulation, please!

Mr. Deeble,
you should download firefox. It has a spell check built in.

and your rage against billboards is futile.

in these trying economic times, you think the city council has the funds (guts) to fight clear channel in a prolonged legal battle?

get used to em.

@ drizell, I hate the messages that point out people's spelling mistakes, it's rude and petty and just irritating. Don't you have something else to focus on? Some people type fast and thus misspell words. The ability to spell is no measure of intelligence, but jumping on people's faults is.

In drizell's defense, deeble has had his spelling problem pointed out to him before, but is apparently unwilling to address the problem. You can find more examples of deeble's poor grammar and spelling skills as well as his sub-par web design skills here.

Put quite simply, deeble is a failure at life, and should keep his opinions to himself if he chooses not to spell them correctly. I would go on to say that if deeble insists on relying upon Jesus to solve all of life's problems, maybe he should ask Jesus for some spelling lessons. . .and some talent.

Yeah, Mr. DumbWad McBadspeller Deeble, it's Herpes not Herpies - that sounds like puppies or something.

I think we should return to the days when they burned people at the stake for bad spelling!

Hey, I thought the time limit on billboards was up, and there was a chance that Tacoma would have to remove all billboards!

Unlikely. However, there will soon be a time when the billboard issue will be before the Tacoma City Council again and there will need to be a concerted effort to keep the effort going. Most likely, there is going to be some sort of fee to be paid to remove many of the billboards.

how do you edit posts? also how do you ban commenters?

Don't answer him! He wants to censor us! Viva la freedom of speech!

Yeah, Mr. DumbWad McBadspeller Deeble, it's Herpes not Herpies - that sounds like puppies or something.

Hah! Even a cat can spell better than deeble!

Tacoma Urbanist points out that wee the people of Tacoma will ultimately pay the price for clear channel's violation of civic responsibility.

I say this is a truckload of tagro.

Did slaves have to pay their slavers for revenue lost?
