Tacoma City Flag

Have you ever seen the Tacoma city flag?  I've lived here for many years and never saw it until I looked it up online.  Well, it's pretty sucky, as far as flags go.  It's just the Seal of Tacoma, in gold, on a blue field.  Have you ever seen the Seal of Tacoma?  It's not something that looks good on a flag.  And gold?  I don't know about that.

Have you ever been to Chicago?  In Chicago, everyone knows what their flag looks like, because it's everywhere.  The Chicago city flag is a really great flag.  It looks good and it's got a lot of symbolism to it.  Everything on the flag means something.  I think they're proud of their flag and it feeds their civic pride.

I'd like to see that kind of thing in Tacoma.  I'd like our flag to be something that we're proud to fly.  I'd like to see it on stickers and t-shirts.  But first, we need a better flag--ours really lacks inspiration.

I'd like Tacoma to hold a contest to redesign the flag.  We seem to have a lot of artists and graphic designer-type peeps here.  I think it could be a really great thing for our city.

Anybody know how to get something like that going?

I'm no artist but I can already see the Tacoma "flag" in my mind's eye.

Against a sea of red ink we find a taxpayer bent over on all fours with his pennyless pockets pulled inside out.

Frank, I hope you can turn my flag idea into reality. Thanks.
