It shouldn't be impossible to play in Tacoma.

someone on some advisory board, should make it possible

The South Sound Shock is trying their hardest to find a place to play in Tacoma.  But apparently Tacoma School Districts rent for fields is outrageously higher than they might find in some of our neighbors venues.  Is it time for another team to play in University Place?  I mean, I see Puyallup as the Greater Tacoma area and love all of our local family.  But there is something about location.  Does it really feel the same cheering for the Sounders when they are on their home turf in Tukwila?  If they want to be a Tacoma team, we should accommodate.  The more higher level sports we have, the more healthy habits and role models will be accessible to Tacoma children.  Somebody think of the children!!!

soccer in WA is doing some fancy things

They aren't sure where they will play or if it will actually be in Tacoma yet.  This new league is very ambitious though and is looking to do promotion and relegation eventually.  I just hope that this team which represents the "south sound" does amazing and that eventually Tacoma get's her own team to cheer for.

The official announcement from the EPLwa:

TACOMA, WA (August 9) — The Evergreen Premier League officially announces today that the South Sound Football Club has been accepted into the new elite statewide adult men’s soccer league that begins play in 2014. Known as the “Shock,” South Sound FC was founded in Tacoma in 2009.

“We have built this club over the past three-to-four years to compete at a very high level in the indoor and outdoor arena and intend to use the EPLWA to further proliferate our development of young and hopeful future professionals,” says SSFC founder and owner John Crouch.

“Interest continues to grow with players in our region to play for the South Sound FC and we look forward to growing that by playing in the EPLWA in the South Sound region. Our offices are based in Tacoma and we would ideally like to play in Tacoma proper but are entertaining ideas about venue, and we will look to expand management in the club to metabolize the growth that this opportunity will bring.”

The Shock are already a competitive, championship-winning side in the Northwest Division of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL). Last season the indoor Shock advanced to the national finals in San Diego after winning the Northwest. Meanwhile the outdoor club just finished third in the entire country in the 2013 United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) national U-23 tournament.

“South Sound is exactly the type of club that the EPLWA was created for,” says Evergreen Premier League Coordinator David Falk. “They are the definition of a local football club in greater Puget Sound. Founded by players and supported by locals, families and Tacoma-area businesses.”

About South Sound Football Club

South Sound FC was independently founded in 2009 and grew into a Tacoma-area club both indoors and outdoors in the following years. The non-profit side has its history in the All Nations Cup, where many of the players have played and where founder John Crouch has managed “Team USA” for several years. The red, white and blue “All-American” theme in the club crest honors those origins. Out of the ANC experience SSFC was born.

Rejoice! Maybe Reborn!

12 May at Cheney Stadium

Seems like there are some amazing possibilities being concocted between the owners of the Tacoma Rainiers and the owners of the Sounders Women.  They are looking to team up in the future and possibly share ownership of a USL Pro outdoor soccer team which would be a TACOMA team!  I guess they are taking a game which will be played at Cheney on 12 May as a feeler of sorts to see how much support there might be in the South Sound/Greater Tacoma areas.

This is big you guys!  No more being all depressed because your favorite soccer team became the seattle sounders U-23!  This could lead to basically legit pro soccer players playing here!  And the schedule will be more full than the PDL team we used to have since it will no longer be made up of unpaid college students home on break!

I'm not sure how it will go down next year, but come on out to Cheney Stadium 12 May at 1600 and support the possibilities.

Seattle Sounders Reserves of the MLS to play Orlando City Lions of the USL Pro soccer League.

Can Anything Good Come From Tacoma?

But you, O Tacoma,
who are too little to be among the clans of Oregon,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler of all Timbers

And the remnant of Timbers shall be among the Washingtonians,
in the midst of many Sounders fans,
like a logger at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium,
like a chain-saw wielding logger chopping down manatee,
who, when he goes through, treads down
and tears in pieces for the flounder tin, and there is none to deliver.
Your hand shall be lifted up over your adversaries,
and all your enemies shall be cut down

Tacoma Tide Do Not Exist

Pierce County now has a team called Sounders FC U-23

I'm glad for soccer in Pierce County.
Sad that Tacoma doesn't have her own team anymore.

Tide and Sounders Find New Local Ownership Group

our team is coming back next year!

The Tide will rise again.

I have never been so happy to read a spew article.  The Tide has a new majority ownership group and our team will be returning for another exciting year of outdoor soccer.  It will be interesting to see if they can get the right connections and pull off the team being in the Stadium without losing all of their money.  I love rich soccer benefactors!

Bremerton wins the national championship.

obviously we're in a dificult division, eh

So, over the weekend, several teams from all over the country met in bremerton for the PDL National Championship.  it was in portland last year and won by their U23 team.  and now bremerton earns the honor.  congratulations to our northwestern neighbors, the Kitsap Pumas for taking it all.

the northwest is an exciting place to be for being a fan of soccer, but it will be a very long off season.  anyone wishing to switch allegiances from tacoma to the timbers with me until the tide (hopefully) starts up again next spring is more than welcome.
