why is that scout? Not everyone has a yard, why shouldnt you be able to have a bbq and have a beer in the park?

In stateparks having a beer in picnic areas or campgrounds is legal

People drink legally in the various parks all the time.

I think one just needs a permit first to set up a beer garden or something similar.

Here's the more specific link:

We took a bottle of wine to a beach in California, bad move, we got a ticket and they made us feel like losers.

Washington regulates alcohol very strictly.

In states such as California, one can buy hard liquor from grocery stores, for better or worse.

However, I suspect they still regulate open alcohol containers in parks.

Or move to Texas.

Just don't drink from glass; anything else, your good.
BTW, in Austin, you can also be topless and it is legal. The line gets drawn at whether your tatas are enough to create a public disturbance.

....And is there any history of public disturbances in your recent history as a Texas resident?

Be discrete and use the red plastic cups. And most importantly, be cool. Don't draw attention to yourselves and everything should be fine to have a few beers while grilling up at the park. I think the spirit of the no alcohol rule for the parks is to keep the vagrants from drinking openly in the parks, and thus when caught, gives them something to take them in on.

Again, just be cool. I do this every year at Point Defiance for our annual family reunion.
