Sun King

by Tom Morandi

Lately there has been a fair amount of public artwork musical chairs around town. The Water Forest lays dormant, a tile mural is gone from Pacific Ave. The Owl is being reinstalled at a new location on Broadway. I do wonder what happened to the Sun King by Tom Morandi. The bronze sculpture used to grace the Sheraton. I would love to see it back out in public and not face the fate of the Goddess of Commerce. Perhaps Tolefson after all could make a home for a king. The Ruston Way waterfront, too, is calling out for more public sculpture.

What did he look like? I don't think I ever saw it. Wonder where it ended up?

Thanks for the pictures. I place blame for the bad weather squarely on the hiding away of the Sun King. Bring him back or there will never be another spring again!

BREAKING NEWS! In a brief to the North End Neighborhood Council, it was revealed that The Sun King has been located and is safe and sound! Due to Homeland safety precautions, I am not at liberty to divulge the exact location, but I can say work is now underway to find it a home.

Google search "sun king Tacoma" and most of what you get are pictures of Solar Richard.
