Girlfriend in Tacoma

the birds, the birds...
(make it STOP!!)
In a conversation with KFrei when I was still in Tacoma, we had talked about signs of spring, and how cool it was to hear birds. In Tacoma, morning birds have this hopeful note that makes you wake up with a smile.
Not so, in Hawaii. They *dare* you to sleep in. So what, if the pounding of the surf kept you up all night. BFD-- GET UP YOU LAZY-ASS HOWLIE TOURIST! They scream, and you will your eyes into the open position, see the sun, clouds, and palm trees and then think, mmmmm, al-ooooooooOH-ha!!
We're in our second place of lodging, a condo right on the water.

It's beena sunny, fun, mellow, vacation-y time with Mai Tais and Sangria making me smile, and family being amazing and frustrating, in turn.
It's been a great trip, but I have to say I'm ready to be home, to the blighted streets and nice drivers (more or less) and socially polite birds. Today is our last day here, and it's bittersweet; I'll try to get onto a paddleboard and maybe work on a sunburn (as yet I am still pasty Washingtonian, no-skin-cancer-in-my-future white) --as of tomorrow night, I'll be Girlfriend in Tacoma-ing from Tacoma.
And I can't wait.

by jenyum on 3/25/2008 @ 4:39pm | Are you sure it isn't actually The Frogs, The Frogs? Coqui frogs are supposed to be a major nuisance in hawaii.
In New England, we had "peepers" which are these tiny little thumbnail sized frogs that never, ever shut up at night. I couldn't hear them at all anymore, but when Jason and I would visit my folks he'd be up all night complaining about them. The little buggers are capable of freezing solid all winter long and coming back to life in the Spring. |
by jcbetty on 3/25/2008 @ 9:50pm | haven't heard frogs. will tape birds manana, will do a sunrise video. They squawk something awful and non frog-like |
