Girlfriend in Tacoma

a couple of duh!-s and a guh?
(finally out of the house!)(Mmmmm!)
I had a corrective emotional day, February-wise.
First, Jenyum came over with wee-est Yum and the two girlies did girlie things happily while the two big girlies chatted happily. Jenyum was kind enough to overlook the nastiness on my floors and couch, and we passed a splendid morning.
Then, I dropped The Kid off at the MIL's (the two, I was told, had a grand time at Jefferson Park), and met up with a friend I rarely get to hang with. She's a cool chick, smart as hell and funny to boot (always a good combo) --so I can overlook her Seattleness.
We started out the afternnon at TwoKoi, and I felt tool-ish at my lack of knowledge that the restaurant was closed in the early afternoon. We made it to the restaurant in time for service-- barely-- and enjoyed really yummy sushi ( I love me a good maki bento!) -then made our way to the Tacoma Art Museum.
For some reason, I thought the Chuck Close exhibit was happening, but was informed that nah, it's opening March 1. Damn, two duh- moments in one afternoon, and I wanted to be all impressively all-knowing Tacoman, in the eyes of this friend.
Even still, the Telling Stories exhibition of the museum's collection, Mary Randlett's photographs, and Renoir's printmaking works were a good use of time. Mostly, Randlett and Telling Stories were impressive (you know me & my domestic hobbies got into Marie Watt's "Tear Down This Wall" piece-- I felt my fingers twitch for a needle and thread) while I had to smile and nod in a cultured sort of way, looking at Renoir's work. I had an "a ha!" moment, reading about how his inspiration lay somewhere between the classicism of Rubens and the intuitive freedom of the Impressionists --but mostly, I saw girls with pretty hats and bathing nudes, and washerwomen and went...guh? (If I were Shania Twain, I woulda' said, "that don't impress me much." But I'm not, and that song drives me ape-poop.) (BUT I digress.)
At any rate, the afternoon, the day, the sun, the friendship, the fine Tacoma institutions new and old...
...it was a day of Mmmmmmm.
