Last night I noticed there was some fencing around the little old building off of South 11th and Tacoma Ave. I know it was in a sad state but it still is discouraging to think that a surface parking lot in Tacoma's central core has more value than a possibly historic little building. This little building had more character than anything built today. RIP little building.

|Morgan@another good posting. I expect that the city parking requirements are behind the demolition. The old Kellys is being upgraded for offices and maybe the city required more off-street parking. I think Pat Palace owned that property and sold it along with Kellys.|

|fredo, I'm pretty sure the downtown code doesn't require parking for pre-existing buildings at the same ratio as new buildings. That's why so many of the existing structures that were converted to condos had far fewer spaces than new buildings.
To me, it's amazing that this area is so blighted despite being across the street from a stable government building with thousands of employees. I have always liked the little white building, too. I would also like to see the retail spaces just down the hill at Fawcett occupied.
