style observation: Farmer's Market edition

noted, today and Tuesday, that a Farmer's Market has a certain style aesthetic. You know what I mean: Teva sandles, cotton tees, evidence of walking (strollers, backpacks, dogs) baskets for groceries, and a sort of make-up-less ease that makes it feel like what casual was intended to feel like. I'm not making judgments, I'm just noting that as far as places to wear kitten-heel strappy footwear, tight designer jeans, and rhinestone-adorned tops, well, those things just aren't that impressive in a F M setting. More »

Heaven...

I'm eating my curried cous-cous salad, exploding with flavors inspired by a TNT article/recipe I spied yesterday, and helped along into its gorgeously flavorful fruition through my Best Friends Ever at Terra Organics. I've used some of last week's lettuce, mixed in with some of this week's, as the bed of my meal, plated with a drizzling of fat-free Italian dressing. More »

Nothing about Tall Ships

I missed the Ships. Well, we did see a few as we drove out to a massage appointment, and then saw a few more signs of seafarers as we drove around and about the town. More »

I thought the tomatoes I'd planted about a month ago were goners. Turns out, happily, I was wrong --after a brief period of shock, they appear to be thriving. More »

Dealing with the summer grumpies

note: I'm nervous about posting. I fear someone might insinuate, on the one hand, that I'm vacuous and jobless, and therefore not worthy of life; the next person (or people) might insinuate that my silly post and blatant consumerism reek of vapid dilettante wealth. More »

Ouch.

A $277 grocery bill slapped me in the face a couple of days ago. Being that we were at Fred Meyer and all, I have to admit that the order was not only groceries; there was a Baby Alive, a couple of keys, a bottle of Advil, dog food, and laundry detergent. More »

critiquing a critique

I might have mentioned my art run around the MoG, the first time I did it. It was a nasty little (yes, little, I think it clocked in at about 2 miles) hilly/steppy run, but notable for the pieces of art and city that I saw on the round trip from the Urban Grace Church to the MoG and back. More »

I reached Vassault Park a little after 8:30, confirming on my walk there that the Nike + sensor was mostly calibrated, more or less. I couldn't find anybody I knew in the huge assembled crowd, and set out to warm up on my own. More »

merry merry happy

I woke up with a start this morning (and a little help from my canines.) Outside, cadence was being called, and the rhythmic voices invaded my house through my open bedroom window. It reminded me of first moving into this house, in the late nineties; I didn't realize how close we were to the Sound to Narrows route until we heard the voices of cadence, and even the footfall of the larger groups from our house. More »

activating, now.

I kind of did a flip the calendar to a new month and new attitude thing, and decided to get away from the stamp organizing, house-cleaning, Flava of Love watching rut I was getting into, and to once again become A Vital, Living Human. To that end, on Sunday I enjoyed a lovely meeting, outing, and beering on teh first ever Feed Tacoma bike group; it felt good to be in the saddle, it felt good to meet new friends, it felt good to reconnect, and dang, did that beer feel good going down. More »

For over twenty years I've been missing out on a shared experience many of my friends engage in, and enjoy. I've held off, as a bit of a rebel, because the person I'd enjoy to do this particular activity with also didn't want to engage in an activity that could be habit forming, albeit enjoyable. More »

maintenance, part two

I just spent an hour of my life sweating against dandelions and inappropriately long grass (those bits that weren't brown, anyway.) I'm feeling a bit burdened by the load of things I want to do back there, like a raised vegetable bed, new and improved patio furniture, less weeds and more plants, and other banal things. Mostly, I fear the yard will once again become mired under by apathy and lack of energy, and yet... More »
