From the fine folks over at Historic Tacoma: Historic Schools may be sold As reported by Debbie Cafazzo in the 12/16/09 issues of The Tacoma News Tribune article "Tacoma schools eye land sales, swaps" 1924 Gray Middle School, 3109 S. 60th Street. Located near Edison Elementary in southwest Tacoma, the site also contains a gym/shop and several unused buildings. One is the old Barlow site, used as a high school from 1904-1910. School board member Kurt Miller suggests the district seek ideas from the community on what it would like to see happen on the Gray site. NEWS FLASH: City Manager Announces Next Streetcar Line Will Be MLK

At the Chamber sponsored Transportation in Tacoma for the 21st Century summit yesterday, the City Manager announced that the next streetcar line will most likely be on MLK. He said the city is pursuing that route because of an LID underway in that area - and because of the muscle power of Multicare at one end of Hilltop and the Franciscans at the other end. More »

The Capitol Record reports, "The Washington State Board on Geographic Names today approved "Salish Sea" as the name for the waterways including Puget Sound, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Georgia Strait." As long as we're at it, why not rename other landmarks back to their traditional names? Anyone up for joining a campaign to change the name of Mt Rainier to Mt Tacoma? More »

On the morning of the demolition we overheard people, some of whom were happy to see the building go, marvel over its thick walls, interior details and stout construction...
