Brick & Mortar Art Love-In (& Elf Shrine Competition) Update

Next Thursday - RSVP now!

"Disturbia Elf"

Only a week to go until the anxiously awaited premier holiday event of the year - the Brick & Mortar first annual Art Love-In and Elf Shrine Competition.

Join us as we celebrate Tacoma art and artists in a festive atmosphere of joyous, joyful, JOY! Come dressed as your favorite Elf Self and bring a hand made Elf Shrine to enter the competition to win a spectacular mystery prize

We now have 15 people that have RSVP'd to attend. We need ten more people to reach the 25-person threshold that insures that we can get this party started!

If you are coming, please email Scout at to let her know the food dish you are bringing so we can plan for a well-balanced scarf-out.

.....And now for some really bad seasonal elf humor:

Who sings "Blue Christmas" and makes toy guitars?

Who lives at the North Pole, makes toys and rides around in a pumpkin?

In closing I am posting some Scary Elf images I found on the internet to prime your creative pump for elf outfits and shrines. I named my personal favorite "Evil Weiner Elf"

"Santa Elf"

"Timberwatch Elf"

"Pixelated Muscle Elf"

"Planter-Head Elf"

"Evil Weiner Elf"

"Harvard Elf"

Specialty Elves

"The I Wanna Be Your Special Elf, Elf"

"The Keep Away From Little Boy's Elf"

...and last but not least, everyone's family holiday favorite:

"The Welcoming Gramma Elf"

Okay Tacoma, this is it - the final update and shout-out for a pretty spiffy event that without four more people will slip through your icy fingers. The mind-blowing, groovy happenin' Art Love-In currently scheduled for tomorrow night might not happen if four more people don't RSVP. The hep event (yes, HEP - a '60s slang synonym for hip) with Elf Shrine Competition  and enticing mystery prize is dangerously close to being cancelled. This would be a bummer, a really bad trip - such a downer that I'm reminded of a depressing thing that happened to me today that I will share with you:

"Dysphoric Elf"

Scout's Poem of Elf Despair

I came upon a doleful elf

Consumed with deep despair,

A sullen, sadling City elf

Whose heart was laid out bare

He cried to me with pounding fists

His tiny elf legs shaking,

"I was headed for the Love-in,

I even did some baking,"

He said he heard it might not be

This wondrous art affair,

"Where are the T-towN hipsters

The artists that do care?"

Then suddenly that elegiac elf

Got a look I thought was gas,

And to the world he proudly shouted,

"Be at the Love-In tomorrow night or I'm gonna kick your ass!"

We are ten people shy of this event happening.

In a few days it could become a crisis requiring that we demand a government bail out.

The way it would work is now that US city mayors are getting in line behind the car manufacturers, once they are taken care of we would go to Baarsma, hats or, in our case, brushes in hand, with our very sad story.

So how we doin' Scout? Are we going to have enough elves to have this event? I think I have a shrine idea forming, but not sure if there are enough hours left to pull anything off. And I just thought of one item I may not find quickly enough. But I'm still game if we can meet the goal. Geez, this feels like a pledge drive.

It's tight and close at about 21 - but I think we may just pull it out afterall - especially if Mofo brings the 300 pound Canary.

But listen up Dave, you keep teasing and talkin' trash about this phantom shrine - I don't want to hear any excuses 'bout not finding the right materials and such - you've thrown down the creative gauntlet and you need to deliver! Your children are watching and the community needs you in these trying times ;-)

I'm bringing mulled wine and some kind of raspberry and brownie treat.

If that doesn't send em' flooding through the doors...

Sounds yummy - I will be making a zucchini, cheese, and toasted bread crumb vegetarian casserole.

I'm coming! You all don't know me, just a film geek with a working email :)

LOL.. It wasn't MY gauntlet!! I'll bring a plastic cooler with ice for the beer and some beer & wine, and since what little spare time I have will need to now have to be spent gluing, I'll pick up some dish from Stadium Thriftway or Metro, from whatever food group we're still lacking. Dang, since I moved, I won't be able to walk home any more.

If you get too imbibed, you may stay at my place - I have an extra guest bedroom, if you don't try anything fresh...

by Dave_L on 12/16/2008 @ 11:58pm
I thought that was the spectacular mystery prize...

by scout on 12/17/2008 @ 9:12am
Oh my, Dave L. - my cat wants to know if you are flirting with me......

And if so, he said I should warn you that he is a certified
(and fierce) Patrol Cat.

CRISIS WARNING: We need five more people to make 25 for tomorrow's event to take place. How bad do you guys really want this?

by Elizabeth on 12/17/2008 @ 2:10pm
I will make it to this event! :)
