Thinking about the holidays already, yikes!

Planning a holiday gift party

Tonight is my Golden Retriever Stanley's first night back to being a house dog now that it is getting colder outside.  But before that happened, last night I ended up using a new anti-anxiety essential oil blend spritz from Here There & Beyond on Stanley, though I had picked it up for personal and spa use.  There has been some night time contruction going on out behind our home in Orting.  Noisy annoyingness!  Last night it was really distressing the poor old dear and he was bawling his little red head off.  I went out to pet him and give him a spritz of the "Serene" and it worked like a charm!  Tonight I used it again as he was super excited to be back in the house and behaving a little spastically!  But I think it's starting to affect me too...

Now the "Serene" is not made especially for dogs, but Here There & Beyond does create some products for pets such as remedies for fleas and skin irritations.  I met the owner, Elizabeth Bloom at two Multicare events I participated in this week.  She is lovely and knowledgeable and has some terrific products that you will likely be seeing more and more of in the Tacoma area and beyond.  If you want to check out her website, it is:  http://www.oils4u.com/.

As I bring the dog back inside "for the winter", I am reminded that it sure is time to start planning Appassionato's pre-holiday gift party, which is now just 4 very short weeks away!  We're really excited to be including among our guests Ms. Linda Danforth.  She will be doing a trunk show at our party!  We are so lucky.  Appassionato is also proud to now carry some of Linda's beautiful jewelry creations at our salon all the time.  Here is a link to check out some of Linda's creations:  http://lindadanforthdesigns.com.

Happy Fall! Though it will be Winter soon enough!

Dame Lola -n- stuff

Going to visit Rebecca

I guess I've been wrapped up in my thoughts of a possible, highly probable, move to Kennewick.  But, until then, I have been busy working and have been neglecting some of my favorite Tacoma gals.  I am about to snap out of it, though!

Dame Lola is on my list for Saturday.  Appassionato is going to be part of the group helping Rebecca put on a bridal-ish event at her place on July 17th.  I am excited but realize we have got to get together and talk about all of this business so we can get the word out - quick!

I also have a gift card to Dame Lola's, hurray!  So I'm pretty sure I will have to use it on Saturday ;)  I probably need something fantastic, and cool, for my next trip to Kennewick - Rebecca surely has some clothing ideas for that 95 degree weather I'll be heading into!

Tiki Lounge

Love it. Love.

I sure took my sweet time getting over to the Tiki Lounge!  Good golly, but I did  not know what I was missing!  Store owner/operator Stacey White is a lot of fun to talk to, and she has so many cute, fun items in her boutique - clothing, handbags, jewelry, shoes, hats...

It was a hard decision, but I came away with a really cool new handbag with cream-colored pleather layers that look sort-of like an upscale ruffle, and wooden horn-like pieces on the handle.  There was also an awesome clutch with big rhinestones on it that I have to go back for, plus all the great clothes that I haven't tried on yet!  My fashionista friend Amy Crawford got a sparkly new ring and is already on a first-name basis with the owner!

I can't wait to go back.

Tiki Lounge is located at 17 N. Tacoma Ave. and is across from the new Dame Lola in a very fun Stadium neighborhood.

Dame Lola

It was a Jungle in there!

The recent highlight of my day, week, and, admittedly, my life! was attending the much anticipated reopening of Dame Lola, one of my very favorite Tacoma area women's boutiques.  I loved the old Dame Lola, I really, really did!  So when owner Rebecca Dashow (total delight!) was forced to close down BEFORE the holidays due to flooding, many of us were devastated for her (and for ourselves!), but she reassured everyone she would search high and low for the perfect new space.  I think she accomplished her mission!

Instinct, a safari cocktail party (with lots of yummies from The Vault)- last Saturday at the brand new Dame Lola!  The mannequins were live models (Rebecca usually gives this honor to friends and customers), they were decked out with hot and wild hair by Carine Deleon of Le Chat Noir, and tribal-inspired makeup.  The models adorned the windows, mingled, and changed outfits throughout the night.

The floors were shiny black, setting off the shades of spring clothing.  Lots of cute dresses, femine tops, and every little thing.  I'm a sucker for a good pair of jeans, which was my purchase of the night.  My friend, Monica Hilliard, got an "I only date Superheroes" t-shirt, which is sure to impress her 5 year-old boy!

My favorite part, besides that I'm so, so happy for Rebecca, is the sexy, lounge-y upstairs, which makes it a perfect place for hanging out, and for having private parties and trunk shows.  Well, wait, my other favorite part is the new neighborhood - friendly plus fun!  Right by Angelo Mendi Salon, Tully's, Parvenu, Calla Lily, Sweet Pea, and more!  What a fun season artwalk will be this year for this growing neighborhood!

Congratulations, Rebecca!

The new Dame Lola is located at 8 Tacoma Ave, Tacoma, WA  98403.

Tacoma Art Place

A Lot's Goin' On!

Umm, have you checked out Tacoma Art Place?  I met Linda Danforth, Founder and President, last fall when I purchased some of her gorgeous hand-made jewelry at Dame Lola's (one of my very fave local boutiques which is about to reopen over by Angelo Mendi's!).  Linda invited me to help with makeup for Tacoma Art Place's Inspired Elegance fashion show last fall, and we've kept in touch ever since.

Linda opened Tacoma Art Place, a non-profit organization, to help make sure everyone has access to creating and enjoying arts and crafts.  She just returned from India (where I bet she made some purchases for future fabulous jewel creations) and shared with me some of what is going on at Tacoma Art Place nowadays - jewelry making, experimental drawing, knitting, and all kinds of classes.  She also mentioned they're getting set up with wheels and kilns to begin offering pottery and ceramics!

Whether you want take a class, or teach one! ...this is a wonderful organization well worth visiting, volunteering for, or donating to.

Microdermabrasion at Appassionato

Renew Your Skin

What is Microdermabrasion?   This treatment is a non-invasive, mechanical means of exfoliating and renewing the skin.  This treatment was first popularized in Europe.  In the 1990's we began experiencing Microdermabrasion and all its benefits in the USA.

Who is Microdermabrasion for?  Most anyone who wishes to refine the skin's texture, unclog pores, prepare the skin for more aggressive treatments, including plastic surgery, and those sensitive to or opposed to chemical exfoliation.

Who should not use Microdermabrasion?  Contraindications include active lesions and open wounds, delicate skin, those with Rosacea,   and those using Accutane and Retin-A.  Those on antibiotics should wait until 2 weeks after their last dosage.  Remember, your esthetician is trained to work closely with you to devise the best plan of action for your skin care.

Do I need to follow special instructions after my Microdermabrasion treatments?  Yes.  The skin will be in a more delicate state and must be kept cool for 48 hours post session. This means hold off on work outs, sweating, and any activity that raises your core temperature. It is necessary to cleanse with lukewarm water for at least 48 hours post session, but a good bit of advice for all the time. Becoming overheated after your session can contribute to hyperpigmentation, or darkened areas on the skin.

How many Microdermabrasion sessions will I need?  As with most skin care treatments, Microdermabrasion works best when done in a series of 4-8 sessions done fairly close together. The first couple of sessions, especially when combined with proper home care, are all about working to create changes in the skin.  After your series is complete, you will want to continue with maintenance sessions and proper home care to maintain your results.

What if I don't complete my Microdermabrasion series?  It is always advised to work closely with your esthetician on the plan of action for your skin.  It won't hurt you to stop, or to only go once in a while for your treatments, but doing this will make it pretty unlikely to ever see results.

Can Microdermabrasion be combined with other treatments?  Yes, a highly skilled esthetician can combine Microdermabrasion with other modalities, such as Ultrasonic Facials and Chemical Peels.  Once your esthetician has gotten to know you and your skin, advanced combo treatments may be recommended.
